Junior Students and Parents

This is the year for testing.  The PSAT is given in October and now it is time to get serious about registering for the SAT or the ACT.  You should seriously consider taking these at least once before the end of your junior year.  Remember, most colleges will look at your highest scores so no harm can come from taking them more than one time!  Start taking a serious look at colleges, universities, vocational schools and community colleges and what they need you to do before you apply next year.  Make sure to take advantage of your two college visit days this year and visit a couple schools.

COLLEGE VISITATIONS: Juniors are allowed TWO excused absences for college visits EACH semester during your senior AND junior years!  Take advantage of this opportunity while you are in the 11th grade!  Next year you are going to be busy applying to colleges and scholarships, so now is the time to visit them and narrow down your choices!  Please turn in College Visitation requests as soon as possible. They are due AT LEAST by 11:00am the day before the visitation.  Teachers would like to know as soon as possible to help with missed classroom work.

SAT and ACT: This is the year for juniors to start taking the SAT and ACT.  I highly recommend that juniors take these at least once before then end of the Junior year – this gives time to retake the exams if they are not happy with their scores andensures that scores available when they begin applying in the fall. Visit www.collegeboard.com/sat and www.actstudent.org for dates and to register.
