Seton Catholic Schools provides technology resources to students, faculty, and staff to promote the development of young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion through an integrated academic, spiritual, and extracurricular program. It is expected that technology is to be used in a reasonable, ethical, moral, and legal manner in accordance with the mission statement, beliefs, and values of Seton Catholic Schools. The Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers and is an environment of independent, unregulated resources that can change daily. The Internet is a valuable tool offering a vast number of resources. This resource is used in the same manner as books, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs are used in an educational setting.
Parents/Guardians are responsible to provide a safe environment for students while using technology at home for school-related work. Parents/Guardians also are encouraged to:
● set rules for student use at home.
● allow use in common areas of the home where student use can easily be monitored.
● demonstrate a genuine interest in student’s use of devices.
● reinforce the idea that the device is a productivity tool to support learning, rather than used as a form of entertainment.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Students must protect their personal and private information. While on the Internet, students shall not reveal personal information, including home address or phone number, or the addresses or phone numbers of other students.
All activity on Seton Catholic Schools' devices and email account, whether conducted at school or off site, is subject to search as Seton Catholic Schools property.

2024-25 Acceptable use
Policy (AUP)- Seton Catholic School provides technology resources to students, faculty, and staff to promote the development of young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion through an integrated academic, spiritual, and extracurricular program. It is expected that technology is to be used in a reasonable, ethical, moral, and legal manner in accordance with the mission statement, beliefs, and values of Seton. The Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers and is an environment of independent, unregulated resources that can change daily. The Internet is a valuable tool offering a vast number of resources. This resource is used in the same manner as books, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs are used in an educational setting.
Seton Catholic School is preparing students for the future by offering up-to-date computer resources to complement the curriculum. Seton provides the following to students: Internet access, network login credentials (for lab and library PCs, and to connect to the student wifi), email accounts, and Chromebooks (if requested & assigned). It is our expectation that the school’s network, Internet access, PCs, and Chromebooks provided to students, as well as their own personal devices are to be used responsibly, as stated above.
Misuse of any electronic devices on the Seton’s network and/or on school grounds may result in any and/or all the following consequences:- Banned from bringing or using any electronic devices on the school grounds for a period. Electronic devices include cell phones.
- Suspension of Seton’s technology, (equipment and network), for a period of time.
- Detention, in-school, and/or out-of-school suspensions depending on the severity of the violation.
- Involvement of law enforcement - Disciplinary action and/or civil or criminal liability.
- Libel may result in legal action.
- Payments for damages and repairs.
- CREDENTIALS
Seton Catholic School uses Single Sign-On to synchronize students’ passwords. Single Sign-On allows students to use a single username (in this case, their email address) and password to sign into their email account, the student Wifi, on-campus student computers and/or a Seton Chromebook if assigned. Students cannot change their passwords. Students are expected to use their accounts appropriately.
The following governs the use of credentials:- Passwords are to be kept confidential. Students must not share their passwords with their peers. In cases of sharing, any suspicious activities will be tied to you.
- Students may not tamper with, misuse, abuse or vandalize any hardware, software or security measures. Any violators will face disciplinary actions and/or payment of damages and fees.

- STUDENT WIFI
Seton Catholic School provides Internet access to all students. Using Seton’s WiFi is a privilege that can be taken away anytime if Seton Catholic School technology rules have been violated. Students must use the designated student's WiFi and must enter their Seton login credentials (email address and password)
The following are not permitted, and students must abide by these rules with no exceptions:- Use of any browser other than Google Chrome
- Using VPN Apps or proxy servers to gain access to blocked Internet sites
- Accessing, displaying, or sending pornographic or offensive material
- Accessing, displaying, or sending materials that are derogatory toward any race, religion, culture, ethnic group, gender or sexual orientation
- Using the Internet for transmission of materials in violation of local, state or federal regulations
- Using obscene language
- Cyberbullying
- Violation of copyright laws
- Trespassing in others’ files, folders or works
- Associating the school name or information in a negative manner on websites, social networks, or blogs, etc.
- Unauthorized recordings and/or unauthorized photos of other students and/or faculty/staff are not allowed. Violation of this policy will include disciplinary action and possible police involvement.
- Social Media
Seton respects the right of its students to use social media. However, it is important that Seton Catholic School students understand the need to exercise care in setting appropriate boundaries between their personal and public online behavior and to understand that what may seem private in the digital world can often become public, even without knowledge or consent. Unauthorized recording and/or unauthorized pictures of other students and/or faculty/staff are not allowed. Seton Catholic School students who use social media must remember that any information posted reflects on the entire Seton Catholic School community and as such, is subject to the same behavioral standards set forth in the Student Handbook and may result in consequences including legal action.
STUDENT EMAIL
Seton provides an email account to each individual student to facilitate communications between administrators, teachers, and students. Students should check their school email account at least daily as this will be the primary method of communication between teachers and students. Students are expected to treat their issued email account as a professional account, not a personal account. Students are discouraged from using their issued Seton Catholic School email accounts for non-school-related works and other personal means. Students may not use their issued Seton Catholic School email account to create accounts for 3rd party services.
Issued Seton Catholic School email accounts come with but are not limited to the following benefits:- G-Suite for Education, which comes with the following applications:
- Google Drive - an online storage file that allows students and teachers to store and share files within the Roncalli Catholic Schools’ domain.
- Google Classroom - teachers may use Classroom to create online manageable courses that students join as a means to access course materials, resources, submit assignments, and view their progress.
- Google Slides - is similar to an online version of Microsoft PowerPoint that provides students with various features to create presentations.
- Google Sheets - provides different tools that allow students to create and manipulate data.
- Google Docs - is used to write and modify documents. Teachers may ask students to use Google Docs to write papers.
- Provides a means of communication between students and teachers, students and administrators and students and coaches:
- Students must not engage in any conversation with teachers, administrators or coaches through their personal email accounts. Students are required to use their issued Seton email account for this purpose.
- G-Suite for Education, which comes with the following applications:
- CELL PHONES/SMARTPHONES
All Seton High Schools’ classrooms are cell phone/smartphone free zones. To eliminate distractions and boost student’s engagement and focus on their learning, the use of cell phones or smartphones in class is prohibited unless expressly permitted by the teacher. Students may not use cell phones or smartphones in class as substitutes for laptops.Cell phones/smartphones must be on silent or turned off and put in lockers. - A phone is available in the Main Office to students who need to contact their parents/guardians. Parents/Guardians may call the Main Office if they need to speak with their child.
Cell phones or smartphones are portable devices capable of capturing images. Due to that fact, they are strictly prohibited from being used in locker rooms, restrooms and athletic trainer’s room. No recording of any type without consent is permitted.
1. First violation – phone immediately turned in to the teacher or Main Office – the student can pick up the phone after school.
2. Second violation – phone turned in to the Main Office – the student will bring the cell phone to the Main Office before 8 a.m. and can pick it up after 3 p.m. for a period of time to be determined by administration.
3. Third violation – phone turned in to the Main Office – parents/guardians will be contacted and they will need to pick up the phone from the Main Office.
4. Other consequences, including legal action, may apply as deemed appropriate by the administration.
The administration reserves the right to check the content of confiscated devices. If the device is password protected, the student must tell the administration the password to unlock it. If the device was used to cheat or if inappropriate material is found on it, consequences may be imposed. Unauthorized recordings and/or unauthorized photos of other students and/or faculty/staff are not allowed. Violation of this policy will include disciplinary action and possible police involvement.
Seton Catholic Schools are not responsible for damaged, lost, and/or stolen devices.
Upon Leaving Seton High School
Seton Catholic School deletes all student’s credentials, email addresses, etc. two months upon leaving or after graduation. It is the student’s responsibility to transfer any documents or files they may need from their Seton account to their personal account. Failure to do so will result in lost data. Information on how to transfer school data to your personal accounts will be emailed to your Seton Catholic School account by IT before your Seton account is removed. We are not responsible for lost data due to the email account being deleted.
Acknowledgment
Seton Catholic School does not have control of information on the Internet. Therefore, information on the Internet may include material that is illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, potentially objectionable or against the standards of Seton. Seton Catholic School Firmly believes that the valuable information and interaction available on the Internet far outweighs the possibility that users may obtain material that is not consistent with Seton’s educational goals.
Seton Catholic School utilizes Internet content filtering in accordance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All devices on the Seton Catholic Schools network will be monitored. Attempting to disable or bypass Internet content filters, including using or attempting to use proxies/VPN to access sites that would otherwise be restricted, is not permitted and will result in disciplinary action. Student use of the Internet is monitored on all devices.
Restrictions on the network and computers will block certain functions. Any attempt to bypass these restrictions will be a violation of the Seton Catholic School Technology Use Policy and Agreement and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for monitoring student Internet use when off campus and at home.
Note: This policy may be changed and/or updated at any given time without warning.
